Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra
Emir Kusturica, cult director and higly talented winner of two Golden Palms in Cannes, introduces in 1986 the group Zabranjeno pušenje (No Smoking Orchestra), an extremely popular garagerock band from in former Yugoslavia. The group split up, but partly reformed in Belgrade to become the No Smoking Orchestra. Their powerful music combines the energy of rock, the madness of the Balkan orchestra and the culture of gypsy music. Their popularity grows with their compositions for film soundtracks such as “Black Cat, White Cat”, “Life is a Miracle” and even a rock opera “Time of the Gypsy”.
After more than 500 concerts in 30 countries, Emir Kusturica returns with his band and a new set for his upcoming film “Love and Peace” (with Monica Belluci). Esperanzah! has always combined cinema with music. Having Emir and his No Smoking Orchestra at the festival is a real honor!
